Llangefni 21 - Bethesda 26

Although Bethesda scored 4 tries to 2 against the home side, the result of the match hung in the balance until the final minutes.

Llangefni went ahead in the opening minutes through a penalty goal but Bethesda struck back immediately with a try from prop Jack Owens.

Bethesda’s scrum was dominant throughout most of the half but the visitors were frequently penalised.

Llangefni managed to kick one of them, giving them a 6 point to 5 lead with half time approaching.

Bethesda struck back once more with a try from left wing Gwion Williams and Gethin Long’s conversion gave the visitors a 6 point lead.

Bethesda’s replacement prop, Shaun Thomas was yellow carded just before the interval.

The match was transformed in the 3rd quarter  when Llangefni scored 2 quick tries. One was converted making the score 18 points to 12.

5 minutes later, Bethesda’s lively prop, Paul Thomas scored a try and Long’s conversion gave the visitors a 19 points to 18 lead.

Llangefni were awarded another penalty around the half way line but the kick was moved 10 meters closer to the posts following Bethesda’s poor discipline. The kick was successful and the score moved to 21 points to 19.

Following a good period of pressure from the Bethesda forwards, the ball was moved to wing Rhys Jones who scored a fine try converted by Long.

With time running out and with only 5 points between the sides, Bethesda’s forwards closed out the match with some powerful pick up and drive play to secure the victory and a bonus point.
